Our origins can be traced back to 1938 when the TocH charity began visiting the local workhouse in Stratton with a portable record player to entertain the inmates. The Radio service began in 1955 when live commentary on Swindon Town home football matches was broadcast to the Swindon hospitals.

Over the next ten years this expanded to include programmes of music based on patient’s requests. Swindon Hospital Broadcasting Society began broadcasts on December 30th 1967 in the cellar of the TocH building in Charlotte Mews. Dust from the adjacent coal store was an early problem.
