Hospital Radio Swindon hosts all day request show

Hospital Radio Swindon will host all day request show

Saturday 20th September we will broadcast a special live 12-hour request show starting from 8am to mark our Diamond anniversary this year. As well as requests and dedications there will be on air quizzes plus a few gusts dropping in during the marathon programme, hosted by the station’s presenters throughout the day.

Hospital Radio Swindon provides a unique and dedicated radio service to Swindon and the Great Western Hospital, 24 hours a day, from its studio within the main hospital building. Entertaining the patients of the various Swindon hospitals since 1955, initially with football commentary before providing a full radio service just over a decade later. The Swindon radio station can even trace their roots back to 1938 making them one of the oldest hospital broadcasters in the UK.

Programme and Content Editor Dave Woods said “We would really like the town to get behind our all-day request show by tuning in and choosing the music for us throughout our live 12 hours. We would especially like for family and friends of those who are staying at the Great Western Hospital or local nursing homes to join in and let us send a special message to their loved ones.”

Since 2007, the volunteer-run station has had a studio on the second floor of the Great Western Hospital. Chairman Arthur Perkin said Hospital Radio Swindon celebrates an amazing 60 years of visiting and entertaining patients in Swindon's hospitals this year, so we wanted to mark the occasion with something special on air.

Our station’s dedicated team of volunteers will be broadcasting the special live 12 hour non-stop programme, on Saturday 20 September by playing some of the most requested music we’ve played over the last six decades.”
